about us
The Rotary Club of Murray Bridge and the Rotary Club of Mobilong decided to form a Probus Club of Murray Bridge with a formation meeting held on the 23rd of November 1983 at the Bridgeport Hotel. The first official meeting was held in February 1984 at the Community Club; there were 37 foundation members and the membership subscription was set at $6.00 per month with morning tea at 30c. The first Annual General Meeting was held in March 1984 with all inaugural officers re elected and Foundation Membership were closed.
The Men's Probus Club of Murray Bridge is an all-male social club for retired or partially retired people. It provides monthly meetings with stimulating, entertaining Guest Speakers together with the "Who Am I" presentaions from our own members and a range of social activities for retired or semi-retired people who reside in or near Murray Bridge, South Australia.
The club's basic purpose is to provide regular gatherings of people who, in their retirement, appreciate and value opportunities to meet others in similar circumstances with similar levels of interest. It provides opportunities for members to keep their minds active, expand their interests and enjoy the fellowship of new friends.
It is free from the obligations of service or raising funds.
For a few hours semi-retired and retired men share stories, coffee and biscuits, purely to build and keep connections.
The Murray Bridge branch celebrated their 40th anniversary in 2023, with members from other probus club's around the region all coming together to celebrate.
The word Probus comes from professional and business, but you don’t need to have worked in either field to join.
